The Breeding and Genetic Resources of Five-Needle Pines
Conference in Yangyang, Korea
22-26 September 2008

  The Conference welcomes presentations on quantitative and molecular genetics, resistance to diseases and pests, hybridization, selection and improvement, genecology and conservation genetics in all five-needle pines. The conference will comprise presentations on all these aspects as well as excursions to the natural stands of Pinus Koraiensis in Sorak and Odae mountains. A visit to the seed orchard of P. Koraiensis will be included. A special presentation on the Korean effort to control white pine blister rust by eradication of Ribes is also scheduled.  
  You are kindly invited to attend the Conference to be held between September 22-26, 2008, in Yangyang, Korea. The meeting is co-hosted by the IUFRO Working Party 2.02.15 Breeding and Genetic Resources of five-needle pines, the Korean Forest Research Institute, and the Society for Korean White Pine.

The Working Party last held a conference in Valiug, Romania, on September 16-23, 2006. There were about 40 registered participants in attendance from 9 countries, enabling good interaction in a very successful meeting in a region with active genetic research on three species of five-needle pines.

The tentative Fee for the Conference will be around
261,000(Won) or 288 US Dollars as of Nov. 2007.
